We suggest using cardboard floppy disks envelopes that can be purchased at office supply stores. Resonance can sometimes cause a stepper motor to stall at a particular step frequency rate. For those wanting to give CPLD a quick try there are actually a pic chip that has programmable logic gates, not near as many gates as a Stfpper but the chips also has other features like a waveform generator and ccpld controlled oscillator.
